Payphone dead?

MSNBC is carrying an article about how, due to the current revolution in cell phone technology, pay phones are becoming passe - even to the point that they aren’t paying for themselves anymore. It’s actually beginning to cost phone companies money to keep pay phones in public places. Could it be possible that an upcoming generation will not know what it means to waste a quarter on somebody?

A hotel to rival… the moon?

Dan sent me this article on MSN, about a new hotel being proposed in Las Vegas. It’s supposed to take about $5 billion to build, and will rival all the other grand, amazing hotels that have been built. My favorite line: “Just for comparisons, Moon eclipses the ultra-pricey and premier Bellagio hotel and casino in Las Vegas, which was purported to cost $1.8 billion to finish. Even a yet-to-come hotel-casino masterpiece, the Le Reve, is likely to come in at a skimpy $2.5 billion.” Of course, $2.5 billion is pocket change - to a trillionaire.

Tolkien’s translation of Beowulf

I was doing a little bit of web surfing this morning, I came upon this article, on News Interactive, detailing a new translation of Beowulf, done by none other than J.R.R. Tolkien. It is thought that Beowulf was the inspiration for Tolkien to continue writing the saga of middle earth, and to publish the Lord of the Rings. Of course, for those Marquette students, Tolkien holds a small place in our own heart, as Marquette owns the original, hand-written transcripts of the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. Check out Marquette’s collection page here.

Tunak Tunak Tun lyrics

It’s amazing. I always look at my logs for each week, to see where people are going on the page and what is popular. Every week, Tunak Tunak Tun is near the top of the list, and I’ve had at least a few people search my site for the lyrics. So, naturally, I am giving people what they want. I did a little bit of searching, and found two pages that give information about the song.

Read on to see the information.I found out that the song is written in Punjabi, and unforutunately, there are no free Punjabi translators on the web. Secondly, I found a website which says that the song title doesn’t mean anything, but the words were just chosen to fit the beat. You can find this information at http://www.wordanywhere.com.

Secondly, I did find the Punjabi lyrics, and I have posted them at the bottom of this story. I also came upon a website that had the lyrics in Japanese, and someone those Japanese lyrics through a translator, so I’ve posted the hacked-up version of the English lyrics at the bottom. However, they make little sense.

If anyone else has other information about the song, please let me know, or post a comment. I would like to have as much information about the song as I can, because I like the tune, and I know that many other people do, as well. I hope this helps!

Post-Christmas Stuff

I hope that everyone had a great Christmas. I did, and I got many nice things to play with and to wear. I would like to thank my parents for all their hard work and for everything that they do for my brothers and me. It was great to lounge around the house all day, doing nothing and playing games with my family. Once again, the competitive edge came out as we all got into a heated argument about the rules for Taboo. In fact, we had to cut the game short, because everyone was so enflamed at each other. (I’m not supposed to tell everyone that stuff, but it’s my webpage, and I’m paying for it, so I can say whatever I want!)

As for today, it was quite a quiet day at work, which I enjoyed very much and am looking to get a little bit more finished up tomorrow. My friend, Erin, is coming in town for the weekend, so I’m looking forward to showing her around and giving her the full Kansas City tour. It should be lots of fun, and I’m looking forward to sleeping in a little bit, because I haven’t gotten that chance in a long while. Plus, I can’t wait to keep playing my Metroid Prime game and get farther along on the levels. I absolutely love it and even though it is a single player game, it’s one of the best games I’ve played in quite a long time. Way to go, Nintendo!
