Time to unplug
I have been staring at this computer screen for the better part of the day. I definitely am going to go outside and take a bit of a walk around to rest my eyes. As much as I like programming, you can only look at code for so long. Thank goodness it’s close to the end of the day and I will get to go home soon.
Keep reading for a weekend recap. This weekend, my friend, Laura, and I drove up to Lincoln to see our friend, Jenny. It was a great time, and I enjoyed meeting many of her friends. On Friday we spent most of the day driving up there after we got off work. The evening was filled with some great relaxation as well as card games.
Saturday brought a great opportunity to go down to the local lake and enjoy a nice swim. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the sun had no effect on my skin, even though I took a very nice, long nap on the beach. That evening, we grilled out and then went to a local bar.
Sunday morning, I got up early and took a walk around the area to take a few pictures. I’m hoping to get them developed this evening and posted soon. There were a lot of mosquitos that were up early Sunday morning too, so I learned about the usefulness of bug spray.
After getting back from my photo excursion, we watched a bit of the Sandlot before heading home. I have to say that it was a great weekend and I’m looking forward to heading up to Lincoln soon.
New block added
I did a little messing around with the site today and have added a new feature. Running down along the left side of the page is now a block that shows the book that I am currently reading. I hope that people will find this interesting and will also help give them some ideas for books that they would enjoy reading.
So, enjoy the new feature and let me know if you think it would belong in another area on the page. Thanks!
Content ideas
I have decided to take a little break from looking at code. Today, I have spent most of the day looking at programming code and wondering what the heck it does. I’m pretty sure that I’m looking pretty glossy-eyed right now. However, I am looking forward to this weekend. I will be making a drive up to Nebraska to see my friend, Jenny. The long drive and the fresh air should do me good.
I am also trying to think up some new ideas for content on this site. I realize that posting thoughts and things every day is fun, but I am yearning to start up a weekly feature or something like that. For a while, I was thinking of doing some flash animation every week, but I’m not the best artist. I know that the picture of the week feature was great and was a big hit at Marquette. Unfortunately, I can’t continue that much further because I am not at Marquette anymore. Of course, I have considered keeping it up, because I will be flying back to Marquette once a month, so I could take some pictures while I am up there. If you are still interested in this, please leave a comment and let me know.
So, aside from pictures, I’m trying to figure out what I could use as a weekly feature for people who come to this site. If you have any ideas, suggestions or if you have something that you would like to contribute, that would be wonderful. You can either leave me a comment below or reach me through the feedback link in the main menu navigation.
Gaming with the family
I can’t believe that I won at Monopoly last night. In what might be the best Monopoly game I have ever played, I finished the game with $3,910 and only one monopoly. I was pretty amazed because at one point I was down to about $60 with just my unimproved lots. Somehow, in the course of that turn, I ended up making enough money to put hotels on my monopoly and then two people landed on the spaces, owing me about $950 each.
Since we were playing the fast version of the game, where the first player to go bankrupt ends the game and then the remaining players count out their wealth, we had an interesting thing happen.Instead of that player going bankrupt, offers were made for the property, in order for debts to be paid off. Instead of having him go bankrupt, everyone else bought his stuff for a higher price than the bank would have offered and the game continued.
So, after about two hours of playing, we had a great time and I still can’t believe that I won. Previous to this, my brother Brian always won at the game so it was nice to have someone else come out on top! ![]()
Time to go home
It’s been a long Tuesday and I’m looking forward to heading home. Most of the day has been spent finishing up reading. It looks like I’m going to get to start doing some fun development work soon. I’m kinda itching to get my feet wet and to “start my education.” Of course, I have a lot of programming experience behind my belt but I am counting these next few weeks as furthering my schooling, since I will be working in an area where I will be learning a lot. This evening, it’s off to choir practice and then hanging out with my friends. I’m hoping to get a good hour or so of reading Harry Potter before I go to bed. I also have a whole bunch of other books that I am going to start reading and have put in a request at the library for the 1918 Pulitzer winner for fiction. I have decided to start my quest to have read all the Pulitzer prize winning novels for fiction. I hope that will be fun and I’m looking forward to it.
