Kansas - flatter than a pancake
Recently published in the Annals of Improbable Research is an article detailing exactly how Kansas is flatter than a pancake. In fact, they used a†laser microscope to compare the sample pancake with an extracted sample of the Kansas landscape. And yes, the old adage is correct. On top of the article, here’s an interview that was featured on NPR, detailing exactly what was done in the study.
For those that tease me about Kansas, I figured that I would post this here first, and beat you all to the punch. Hah!
A great version of breakout
I love the game Breakout and I have always been in search of new versions of it to fit my own likings. I think I have come upon the most innovative and creative versions of breakout that I have seen. It’s a circular breakout, with the drop point being the center of the screen. I had a friend in college work to create a game like this. I can only imagine that his version was as cool.
Rolling your eyes
During my websurfing stint this evening, I came upon this site, which has one of the coolest images I have ever seen. It took me a few seconds to realize that what I was looking at was not exactly moving, but rather it was the adjustment of my eyes which made the image move. Definitely very cool.
Creating utilities
Over the past day or so, I actually got to start and finish my own program. I created a utility that will syntactically check a query against a database. It was pretty fun, particularly because it made the day go by quite fast. Yesterday, I sat down at the computer, then looked up, and it was 11:30. Then, after lunch, I sat down and started coding, looked up and it was 4:30 already. I wish all my days went by that fast. Yesterday, I also went to Best Buy and bought three new DVDs. Spy Game, The Bourne Identity and Almost Famous. I highly recommend any of these three movies to anyone who is looking at buying a few DVDs in the near future. They will definitely be movies that you will watch again.
The coolest ad ever
I was surfing the web early in the morning, and I came upon this
website, which has a flash version of the funniest ad I have ever seen. If
anyone is familiar with Rube Goldberg devices, this has to be the ultimate Rube
Goldberg machine. And, best of all, everything was done without the aid of any
computer animation. The only thing I can’t figure out is how they got the wheels
to roll up a hill, other than that, everything looks legit.
The site also
has links to places with interviews of the creators of the ad and the technical
stuff about the ad. Here’s the official honda website
about it.
