Time for bed

It’s finally time for bed, and I’m ready. I have just spent the past four hours or so wresting with a new content management system that I am setting up for a nonprofit organization. Of course, once the whole thing is up and running, it will rock. If my site wasn’t so established on the PHPNuke codebase, I’d probably be converting this whole thing over as well. However, if anyone is interested, the CMS that I am using is typo3. Check it out if you have some time.

One of the biggest problems that I ran into was running a local install of ImageMagick, which will allow the others who will be running the website to upload pictures and things. Thank goodness for google and all the people who took care of that for me. I was able to find a little that did just what I wanted, and now all I have to do is concentrate my efforts on coming up with a good template for the site. Once I’m done with that, I’m pretty much home free. All I have to do is plug in the text, and let the website go nuts.

Of course, the only problem with that is I have to figure out how to create the template in what seems to be one of the most complicated template languages ever. However, once it’s done, I’ll post the link and everyone can go bask in my latest creation! Bwaa Haa!

My cheap cell phone

I realized today that I have a cheap cell phone. “Why?” you ask. Well, as we all know that Wednesday morning, Mars will be the closest to the earth than it has been in quite a long time. Of course, this same event will happen again on August 28, 2287. So, I decided to go to my cell phone and set a friendly reminder for myself, or whomever owns my phone by 2287, so that they would know to look for Mars in the night sky. However, the phone doesn’t take dates beyond December 31, 2099! I tell you, I bought a defective product. Do you think that I could send this in an get my money back, due to flaws in the product design? So, I’m just sitting here wondering whether I could just get away with it. I’m sure that people will tell me that the manufacturer would probably not comply, but I think that there are plenty of crazy lawsuits out there, so why not start one of my own? I think I’ll call one of those TV lawyers tonight and see what they say.

Lifeguard on Duty

To serve your needs for Friday humor this week, I found this link to a Saturday Night live skit with Jim Carey doing duty as a lifeguard. Actually it’s pretty funny, and I wish I would have thought it up! This is a movie link, so it might be easiest to right click the link and then click save to disk.

It’s a scorcher!

Boy is it hot here today! It’s currently 105 degrees outside with a heat index of 109. And, it doesn’t look like we’ve hit the projected high for the day of 106. I’m kinda scared of going outside, for fear of my clothes melting onto me. Thank goodness my car has air conditioning. Tonight, Patrick and I are grilling steaks, but it’s so hot, I don’t think that we need to turn on the grill. In other news, I’ll be spending my evening with my brother, Patrick, either reading or playing a few video games. I’m looking forward to a quiet night, since it’s almost Friday and that means it’s almost the weekend. This weekend, I’m hoping to go and finally see Finding Nemo with a friend of mine. We have been meaning to see it for about a month or so. Perhaps those plans will finally come to fruition. If so, I hope to have a review of the movie up soon.

Go home time

It’s almost time to go home, so I thought that I would take a little bit to post up a new story. These past few weeks have been very busy for me at work, and I have been concentrating my efforts on helping to get our new software release out the door as well as going through the employee training program. So, alas, I have not had time to update the website too much. However, it looks like I’ll be getting some more time on my hands for updates. In other news, I’m considering having Lori do the picture of the week feature on the website. If you would like to put in your two cents, just take this week’s poll, and let me know your thoughts. She has agreed to help me out with the pictures and I might ask one other person to help with that as well. I haven’t worked out the details yet, but as soon as we get something figured out, I’ll definitely be letting everyone else know. So, if you like the picture of the week, say so! It will probably continue to be around Marquette’s campus, so for those Marquette grads, get ready, round two will be coming up!
