There’s a head on the table!

Ok, I’ve officially gone nuts. Patrick and I have decided to build a halloween prop for a haunted house. Basically, we’re going to build a head on a table. Yeah, that’s right. He and I went to Home Depot tonight and got all of the needed supplies. As we start to build this thing, I’ll be documenting it with the digital camera and posting pictures up on the website. Hopefully, by this weekend, we’ll have some semblance of an idea of what we’re doing. I’ll keep you all posted. As for other stuff, work is still going well. I got a new battery for my phone over the weekend. And, they gave it to me for free. I went over to the local verizon wireless store and was talking to the salesperson about how the battery didn’t last as long as it should and they told me that the battery was still under warranty. What’s more, the just replaced it by giving me a new one, with no charge and no fuss. I have to admit, this extremely impressed me, since normally there’s a whole lot of junk that you would have to do in order to obtain a new battery, particularly if you wanted to pull the warranty card and try and get it for free. It was great. No fighting, no arguing, nothing… just a free battery. Wow.

Wiggle Worms

This Friday, I have found a cool game on the web. It’s called wiggle worms, and basically you are a worm racing against other worms. It’s pretty cool, and I would have played it longer if it didn’t take so long for each round to start. However, it’s still a good time waster. Enjoy! And, it’s hard to beat some of those upper-level worms.

Norton Internet Security

Well, it never fails. I get the feeling that I want to upgrade to the latest version of Norton’s Internet Security product and everything goes awry. Last night, I bought the new download for NIS2004 and proceeded to try and install the whole thing right away. Did it work? Of course not. In fact, I got this really informative error: “The installation encountered errors and cannot continue installing.” Amazing. From this little error, I can figure out exactly what is going on and what to do about it… So far, Symantec’s email support has been helpful but nothing they have suggested works. I have tried removing all of the previous NIS2003 installation but the darn thing still won’t install. It’s getting pretty frustrating.

Since I’m betting that Google will index this story soon, if I ever get this software to install, I’ll update this story and post exactly what steps I took to get the whole thing to run. I just hope I don’t have to spend a weekend rebuilding my operating system so that I can use my new purchase. I know it’s been a while since I’ve formatted and re-installed, but it seems as though this latest install of Windows has been pretty stable. I haven’t had too many problems with it. Of course, I’m sure that there is some OS rot in there somewhere, I just haven’t seen too many signs of it yet. The other problem is that I don’t want to spend my Saturday ghosting the whole machine, reinstall my original ghost image and then spend another hour or two patching and updating the system. I would rather just go back to NIS2003, if it ever installs on my system, and be done with the whole thing.

Well, that’s about it for me now. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Marquette weekend

I took this weekend to fly up to Milwaukee and spend some time with Lori at Marquette. The weather has been wonderful up here and it’s been nice to get away for a little bit. Friday evening, we saw Marquette’s production of Snoopy, the musical. It was really neat and I have always been a big fan of Charles Schultz. All the performers did great job, and if anyone at Marquette is reading this, you should definitely go and see the show!Saturday evening, the girls had a party in the Catholic house. And, while the rest of the world watched the Miss America beauty pagent, Jon, Greg and I played cards. It was wonderful. Eventually, we got a whole bunch of people playing Harry Potter Uno and whenever someone laid down the Howler card, we laughed and cried while the next person yelled out all their cards at the top of their lungs. It was fun to see the entire house get quiet and look at us all. Then, after Uno, we played what can possibly be called the longest game of Phase 10, which lasted a good three hours. It was a great game, but very frustrating at the same time.

Bouncing bear and silly putty

Two humor links this Friday for everyone. For those with good broadband, I found this video of a bear that got stuck in a tree, and then to get it out of the tree, they actually bounced it on a trampoline and shot it with a traquilizer dart! And, for those who are looking for a little chemistry experiment, here’s a page that shows you how to make your own silly putty.
