Santa and the Martians

I have found my new cult movie to buy. Check out this link on Amazon. Well, I’m really not that serious about it, but I did think it pretty funny that someone chose to make a film on that topic. And now, on to more interesting stuff…

This morning’s homily at mass was really good. Fr. K talked about Mary’s response to Elizabeth and how it was given in such humility. It’s interesting that the first reading from Paul to the Romans is all about how to love and care for one another. The steps that are outlined are a pretty good template to lead someone to humility.

Likewise, as Fr. K mentioned, when Elizabeth greets Mary and calls her blessed, Mary does not launch into a speech about all that God has done for herself. Instead, Mary goes into her Magnificat and notes all of the times in the past that God has sent blessings and salvation upon the Earth. It’s a recount of salvation history rather than a brag about herself. How beautiful and humble!

May the blessings of Mary shower upon you today on the feast of the Visitation.

Time Passed

Gosh! I can’t believe that it’s been 10 days since I’ve posted. So much for trying to keep a regular schedule. Each time I thought about posting over the last few days I figured that I was too tired and that I would do it later. Nothing like a healthy dose of procrastination.

Today was the last day of school and after this morning’s mass, I spent most of the time signing yearbooks. I also bought my own copy of the yearbook and after having all the kids sign it, the inside cover looks like a minefield of signatures. I’m pretty excited to go through and read what people wrote, but perhaps I’ll save that for a rainy day when I’m feeling lonely in the youth room.

I really don’t know what I’m going to do to keep myself occupied during the summer. Most of my working day was spent in the school doing stuff that youth ministers do. Over the summer, I don’t have the school as an excuse for getting out of filling out paperwork or some other task that I don’t want to do. (Not that I did that very often anyway.)

This evening, I’m planning on making my return to the Thursday night mass group. It’s been about two months since I’ve been back and I miss seeing a lot of people. I guess that’s one good thing about my relaxed schedule. I’m still debating whether I want to go to dinner tonight, because I’m not fond of the particular restaraunt we’re going to, but I have a nice drive back to think about it.

Ok, that’s about it for now. I keeping with my procrastination, I think I’ll post some more stuff later… :-)

Chip meets Nick

One of the sixth graders (Travis) made a comic about Chip the Flying Squirrel meeting me at my job. I thought it was a pretty good comic, so I’m posting it here. A big thanks to Travis for drawing it, I think it’s really funny!

Super Talent Show

Ryan told me about this awesome video this morning. I guess it’s a talent show at Gordon College and they put on a Super Mario Bros. show. It’s pretty impressive. This gives me some interesting ideas…

Podcasting

Alright. I’m thinking of putting together a weekly podcast, and this entry is asking for your opinion. I’m thinking of talking about the different things that we do at youth group on a weekly basis. Does this sound like something that you would be interested in? If so, leave a comment, and take the poll on the website here and let me know your feelings!
